The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) is a large, public research university, enrolling about 45,000 students, and accredited by the French government. Because of its strategic position, surrounded by three mountain ranges, Vercors, Chartreuse and Belledonne, the UGA is a major international research center in mountain studies.
